In search of a meeting place for Chicago Amateur Bread Bakers

Chicago Amateur Bread Bakers, a grass-roots, Andersonville-based
not-for-profit, is in search of (one or more) venues for our monthly
meetings. We are grateful to Winston's Cafe at Clark and Argyle for
hosting us since February 2011, and we are sad to see Winston's close
its doors.

Our venue requirements are: a table, 12 chairs, and a low ambient
noise level (so we can hear one another speaking). Meetings last
2 hours and are limited to 12 participants.

Our bakers are curious, polite individuals who treat one another and
our venues with respect. We leave our venues clean, with furnishings
arranged as we found them. Our host will receive our many thanks in
the form of freshly baked loaves! We also advertise our venues as
sponsors on our website.

Our meetings are free or very low cost, e.g., the price of a cup of
coffee or two. When meeting at a cafe, we typically arrange that each
baker buy a minimum number of drinks from the cafe. Meeting organizers let
bakers know of this attendance requirement well in advance and
guarantee that it's met.

Would your local restaurant, cafe, school, office, or community center
like to host Chicago Amateur Bread Bakers? If you would like to offer
or suggest a venue, please contact Jacqueline at j {at} designingmyday
{dot} com.

Thank you for your time and consideration!

Chicago Amateur Bread Bakers is a not-for-profit group of avid home
bakers of yeasted, artisanal breads. We get together in-person to
share our experiences and learn from one another. We strive to support
and inspire those actively baking bread at home.

Greetings, friends! One idea: we started a Hudson Valley Baking Society last winter and having a homebase was important. We wanted to have a reliable site and a place where we could bake together. So we looked at the area's religious and social service organizations, places that had their own buildings. We now have an arrangement with a school system that has an adult ed program so their facilities are open evenings and Saturdays. It's been a great arrangement! Hope this helps.

There's been an outpouring of support for Chicago Amateur Bread Bakers, as we look for new venues for our monthly meetings.  We so appreciate the help we have received from our local community, as well as from fellow fresh-loafers. We now have meeting venues for our "Taste-and-Tell" events on September 28th and October 19th. Thank you, everyone!
