Hobart N50 questions

Depending on which thread you read, there seems to be some conflicting opinions on what works with the N50 and what doesn't.  I have an ancient model (would love to be able to date by #, ideas?) judging by the old logo I uncovered sanding off the hideous green paint.  The logo was painted on and sanded off, wish I could have kept it.  I have looked for old Hobart logos and keep getting dead ends.  Ideas?

So, I know some folks have said the older models don't like the spiral dough hooks.  I am guess its the ball bears and maybe the newer ones have angular bearings?  A few folks seem to not be worried and say they are going to do it anyways, so does anyone have any long term experience with the spiral hook? I wouldn't think it would put that much pressure on the bearings.  Is the Hobart spiral hook better than the KA, and which KA is best (this seems to be debates as well)?  And the bowls, I understand some KA work fine with the Hobart?

First post here, thanks a bunch.

Hello,

No old Hobart label for sale anywhere. But here is my SVG model I redrawn some years ago for my own needs (all vectorised shapes, long and tough job to get this quality !) : http://babar3.free.fr/_hobart_label_improved.svg . Thanks to this file, any shop specialised in editing decals or stickers may be able to help you. The file is very easy to edit for scale or color changes.

There is no ball bearing in the N50, all shafts are supported by bushings which are quite resistant. I use the spiral hook, and as per my own experience I didn't noticed a resulting wear.

By the way, the N50 accepts the original 5Qt kitchenaid bowl (the model which fits the K5 or Heavy Duty models)

Do you have the spiral for the K5 as well?

Thanks for the info and the link.  I am afraid my logo even predates that one, it seems I have the original that is identical to the model G KA, or best that I can tell.  My logo had wavy lines on each side of Hobart that looked like wings

Hello and sorry for the logo. Until now I always believed that it was the original one. If you can upload a picture of your corresponding logo then maybe I will be able to reproduce it in vector graphics (you just have to be patient because this is a long long manual work for a fine result).

The Kitchenaid K5 doesn't have any official spiral hook, however the reference Whirlpool #W10536041 (a 6qt hook) will fit both shaft and bowl.
