trouble posting a photo for my profile

Hi,  I am having trouble posting a photo of myself for my profile, and wonder if someone can help.   I went into "My Account" then the "Edit" tag.   Then I successfully uploaded a photo for my profile.   Then I realized that it was too dark, so I wanted to replace it.   I was able to delete it, but each time I tried to load a second photo the first one came up.   Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?   You can see the "wrong" photo on this post, but I really would like to get the "right" one up.    Thanks.   -Varda

You browser has a cache (think of it as a filing cabinet filled with all the stuff you look at on the Internet) which keeps pages for a certain period of time before updating.  That's why the picture didn't change at first.  Next time, empty your cache and the change will happen right away....but it'll change anyway eventually so if emptying your cache seems too hard...don't bother.  No big deal.

All right.   I figured the issue was with the application, but what you are saying makes sense.   Thanks.

Your browser's cache might have built up oodles of data from lots of other sites over days or weeks. So emptying the whole thng can be awfully drastic and may not be something you do lightly. (And it's difficult to know just how long to wait, because it depends on the particular settings your browser uses.)

There is often though a much less drastic (and less geeky) way to update just part of your browser's cache, a method you should try when plagued by an "old version" of something (it's guaranteed to never hurt anything, not even when it turns out to not help your issue). Hold down your CTRL shift key on your keyboard, then (while the key is still down) with your mouse click on the "recirc"/"refresh" icon (two arrows eating each other's tail?) near the top of your browser.
