But decided to bake a white, spelt and whole wheat flour loaf with some oat bran and hemp hearts instead.. it's been a long day so I've decided to throw it in the fridge to bulk and will shape and proof tomorrow.. too tired to wait to shape tonight..  will attempt to score a maple leaf on top .. it's sitting beside the marinading ribs.. :)

piece of raspberry chocolate cake for dessert after eating a Chris Bianco's Trattos which is right next door to Bianco's Pizzeria II.  My daughter wanted to go to Trattos for Father's Day but this was the earliest we could get a reservation.  The food was excellent, the service superb and the atmosphere good enough to eat.  The bread was Italian baguette and focaccia - both yeast breads and Chris's brother is the baker at Trattos.  Highly recommended.  A great way to celebrate Canada Day!

Good Luck with the maple leaf slash job and happy baking.  Whole Foods was sampling Kamut Sourdough at the bakery and it was very good - just delicious.  My daughter said 'hey Dad they make as good a bread as you do':-)

... with storms rolling through, wicked pressure changes, and temps all over the map!  I stuck with the already-baked 100% rye with dried fruit and a schmear, just for less stress (and more enjoyment).

Your dinner and dessert both sound wonderful, and like a lovely celebration (even though a bit later than originally planned).  It sounds like you got really lucky with that Kamut Sourdough tasting, with it actually being good enough for your daughter to mention it and your breads in the same sentence...  Considering what I've seen of your bakes, that is a lot to live up to.

Instead of baking, we were out in some barley fields today doing some vermin control, and got back to enjoy the leftover moose roast and a few minutes on here before off to bed.

Hope you and yours have a great Canada Day weekend, Bread 1965 --- and can't wait to see the maple leaf scoring!

We had a great day! It started off with a trip to the farmers market where we had breakfast and bought s few treats like ham and cheese hand pies, carrot cake and butter tarts. We also picked up East Indian chicken bread rolls and pakoras. Oh and we got a very cool t-shirt for the hubby saying "All dads are equal but only the finest raise a nurse".

When I got home, I baked 8 loaves of bread and watched an episode of Travelers on Netflix.

Then in the afternoon, we hit our favourite gelato place where I had a Brie and cherry crepe as well as Sortilèges (maple whisky) and peanut butter strachiella gelato.

And tonight, we had a great meal at my friend's house... prime rib, potato salad, taco salad, dips and do on. Closer to dark, we boarded a commercial boat to go hang out in the harbour to see the city's fireworks.

All in all, a pretty good Canada Day!

and boiled the nuts.  Does that count for Canadian Day?

I know that Jackfruit is not native to Canada but could one consider keeping one's nuts warm  ???  :)

Peeled off the outer tough skin and chopped them up.  Made a slightly sweet milk dough with my favourite combo of whitish flours, butter, 2 eggs,  and threw in a shot of apricot schnapps.  Wow.  Jackfruit  nuts seem to go well with apricots and so I'm making nut rolls and can't decide if I want cinnamon in them or not.  Got to decide soon.

Cake, bread, moose roast, kamut sourdough, prime rib, and warm nuts (always a good thing!) Any celebration is good!

Happy Birthday Canada!

It's funny how our celebrations always revolve around food! We were in beautiful Parksville on Vancouver Island, lazing around. On Canada Day our daughter, son in law and grandson drove up to spend the day and night, so I got to play with my grandbaby. We had burgers for dinner and then I walked down to the beach after sunset and sat on a rock to enjoy the twilight on the water and the fireworks across the bay. Everyone else was in bed. :)

Hope you have a happy 4th, DAB! Oh, and Mini, the temperature is in the mid to high 20s, so the nuts are roasting. :)

for a campfire breakfast.  She would sit on a rock right next to the edge of the lake and ask the unsuspecting to sit next to her and watch the sunrise.  Then a boat would go by and the wake would come ashore and soak who ever was siting next to her.  She thought that was so funny and it was.  My mother and her Vasalined all the door knobs and toilet seats in he first house I bought after college.... then tee peed the oak tress in the front yard too.  They were having too much fun for 47 year olds:-)  Now Betty is in her late 80's and just as wild as ever.

Doing stuff with the family is good and something to always remember.
