Hello everyone & reviving the manual crank dough sheeter

Hey everyone!

I've been a quiet reader on here for many years now and finally decided to make an account. I was formerly from California but have since moved to the Gold Coast in Australia.

Anyway, I was just wondering if any of you were still interested in obtaining a 24" - 30" wide sturdy manual-crank dough roller, pastry sheeter, pasta roller, pizza roller or whatever you want to call it. I am about to design and engineer one at the moment. I couldn't find one with a promising design with an appropriate price-point. Also, I've had a huge debacle (with shipping, international money transfer, Portuguese-English translations) with getting one in imported from Brazil after many months in contact with the manufacturer only to find out it doesn't quite open wide enough for my use. So, I've decided I'm just going to fabricate one and thought I'd release it to the public as well for whoever else that may be interested in getting one.

Features:
- 3" stainless steel rollers
- 3.5" maximum gap opening
- precise height adjustments with leadscrews (not your cheap set-screw and spring tension balance system)
- metal gears
- high quality bearings
- all-metal construction (constructed of milled aluminum and stainless steel)

You'd be looking at around a price-point of $650 or so.

Cheers!

when you make one , please consider sharing the design with notes!

Let us know how it goes. We can spread the word if you decide to sell them.

Ahh, it's good to see there are some interests on this. I wasn't quite sure if this would gain traction.

Since I last put the post up, I've pretty much finalized the design. Unfortunately, sourcing parts and putting together a BOM (bill of materials) is quite an involved process. I've also since met up with a machinist to get quotes. At this stage, it doesn't look like it's going to be economically viable for me to produce a one-off product by outsourcing the machining work. I was looking at about $1000-$1200 to get just one done up. I'd be better off just purchasing the South African one and having it drop-shipped.

So instead, I'm looking to put my engineering degree to good use and invest in a mill and machining it myself.

Getting quotes for a mill at the moment.

James, thank you for the message. Since I'm looking to produce and sell this to help recoup the cost in purchasing the milling machine, I don't think I'll be releasing the design, with notes, and with the list of parts at this stage yet. I may consider releasing the design with the BOM and assembly instructions in the future for a fee. That way you can source the parts yourself with the BOM and put it together if you're so inclined. However, I would have to address some sort of no-competition clause if I'm selling the item.

I'll put an update up once I've produced the first working machine.

Thank you all!

A little update on the project. . .

It's taken awhile but I've invested some money into a milling machine and tooling. Will be looking to construct one of these rollers in the next couple of months.

Once I have completed it, I'll put up some pics.

Cheers!

..video (and a demo one too). It's great that you're persevering.
