Weck Jars

I have to say that I'm really loving my new Weck jars for feeding my starters with. Once fed, I can mark the jar with a Listo Marking Pencil (grease pencil) or a White Board dry marker where it sits in the jar along with the time. Either pencil marks are easily erasable with a damp cloth.

I find that marking after each feeding and watching the duration of the rise tells me how strong my starter is becoming.

Always interested in making the sourdough challenge easier!

Oh no, I haven't found that streak yet and hope I don't!

To match your Weck jars, get an Oxo jam spatula, you’ll thank yourself when you get it.  The jam spatula is the perfect shape and size for mixing your starter or levains in the Weck jar.

Yes that is the one, I’m not sure I could live without it.  I guess I probably could but my life would not be as good as Dancing Queen (Muriel’s Wedding).

I use the tiny 760 jar that holds about 5½ oz and mix with an espresso spoon. It works well, but I always wished the spoon handle was about an inch longer. I ordered an OXO jar spatula and hope its not too wide for the little jar. Even if it is, it can be used for other purposes. Thanks for the tip!

P.S. My fave thing about the weck jar is that it has no "shoulders" to clean under :)

A rubber band around the jar is much easier than any markers...

Hans, have you given markers a try? I love them on glass. It washes off easily and I can write things like time, feed ratio, etc. on the jar. I’ve been using markers for years.

If you haven’t tried them, give it a go.

I hope this virus hasn’t affected your flights.

Thanks Danny, I'll give it a try when I need more info than just the amount of rise. All is well here, I hope the same with you!

I wanted to add Weck jars to my wish list but one day I was at the local smoothie bar and saw they serve smoothies in used Adam’s Peanut Butter jars.  They are large and shaped similarly to the Weck jars I saw on Amazon. They were happy to serve my smoothie in the recycled jar and I was feeling good about my resourcefulness.

I haven’t tried the markers or OXO spatula.  They will be added to my Christmas list.  Thanks for the tips.
