Keeping bagels fresh when mailing

Hello all,

I want to ship bagels and found that plastic bags soften them while in route.  How can I keep the integrity of the bagel.   Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Thank you in advance

Mike

Welcome Ugly Bagel

I don't think you can keep them truly fresh, but there are some options.

First, I'm assuming this is not a commercial operation, just that you are trying to send some great local bagels to some friends that would not otherwise have them.

I suggest that it is mostly about what your friends do rather than you.

You just wrap them up in plastic bags and ship accordingly. Have your friends put them in a regular old brown paper lunch bag, run tap water over the outside of the bag and put it into a 350F oven for about 8-10 minutes.

To my experience, it is the best way to refresh baked rolls or bagels to near 'right out of the oven' quality.

They might need a minute or two out of the bag, just on the oven shelf to get close to perfect but either way, pretty good.
