Floyd, I'm not receiving notifications anymore after the update of TFL. I re-saved all my settings, but still I don't get any email.
I'm still working on finding a good replacement for the subscriptions and notifications we had here. I thought I'd found one, but it turned out to be more complicated, more taxing on the server, and unreliable. Not a good combination! :(
If you keep that "Notify me when new comments are posted" box checked when you make posts you should get replies to your post or comment, but obviously that doesn't help you follow other folks.
The feedburner email digest I set up is a really nice way of getting new posts in a daily email. It puts them in an HTML email so you can see the pictures and everything. It doesn't help with new comments though, and there are questions about Google's long-term commitment to keeping it around. Google just killed Google Reader, their main RSS product, so I wouldn't be surpised to see Feedburner go away before too long also. Still, for now it is a good one.
Click here to sign up for that.
I'll continue looking for something and let folks know if/when I find something that gets the job done.
I have signed up for feedburner, and I also get an RSS feed through Feedly. But although I have checked the "Notify me..." and "All comments" box, I am not getting these emails. It's not a critical issue for me and you've already got a lot on your plate, but I just want to make you aware of this. Thanks.
Feedburner should send out an update each day in the afternoon.
The Notify me..." and "All comments" boxes should send you replies to threads you are participating in, like this one.
Yeah, that's what I expected to happen. Feedburner works fine...but still no emails on any of the posts I am following.
Thanks Floyd, it'w working now. I didn't receive notifications for old topics I subscribed, but newer ones are working.
I am not receiving notifications
I used to but now receiving nothing
Got signed in site is Beauitful thank you for your services you provided for us good luck
Yup yup. Read the first comment here.
I'm not receiving ANY digests since the update. Thanks for any help.
There is no digest unless you sign up for the feedburner digest.
I'm confused now, I didn't know we had to get the digest through feedburner. How do you sign up for that? Would that be like the digest mail I used to get before you changed servers?
I haven't found a replacement for the old digest email that'll include all new posts and all new comments.
The feedburner-based digest is really nice, a lot nicer than the old direct email IMO because it is HTML and includes images, but it doesn't include all the comments. And, as I mentioned, there are questions about how long Google will support it. Still, right now it is really nice way keep abreast of developments on the site.
I think the problem is the general trend in web technology is away from "batch" and toward "real time". That makes sense when you consider how people used to connect to the internet (dial in, spend an hour or two online, log off) and how people connect now (all the time, on any number of devices). Not all of us, obviously, but developers' time and energy is being invested in projects that support that behavior rather than the batch approach. The projects that support the batch approach are withering and dying.
(among all others, of course!) is the notification of new private messages. Thanks a lot!
Since receiving digests via email is no longer an option and I have no clue what feedburner is.....how else am I to follow everyone's posts?
Click the link to sign up for the feedburner e-mail digest -- Feedburner is a company that Google bought a few years back that scrapes the RSS feed and puts together a nice email from it -- or come visit the site.
I'm getting the daily email - with the post titles first, and the text down below, but pics and videos aren't showing, and the links aren't coming through either.
So I'm taking a note of the post titles and searching for them on the site, ATM.
Thanks for all your efforts - much appreciated!
The headlines for each of the entries in the email are clickable too and will take you to the full post.
The missing images/videos is a pathing issue. I'm trying to figure out how to force Drupal and Feedburner to use the full path all the time but have not yet.
I've not been receiving any notifications after someone else's loaf of bread was was taken away and my picture put back in. I found it odd that no one was posting for more than a week, came on line to check and found that there were others who were experieincing the same problem. Pls keep those notifications coming, thanks.
After playing with my settings for the past week, I finally tracked down the reason I was not getting notifications: Comcast. It has happened to me before that Comcast unilaterally decides not to deliver certain emails that it considers bulk. They don't put them in a spam folder, it just ignores these emails and they disappear. Apparently, this is what happened to my notifications since the change. I replaced my email address from Comcast to gmail, and now everything is working as expected.
If anyone else out there in TFL-land is not getting notifications and uses Comcast as an email address, try changing your email to see if the problem is eliminated as mine was.
Now I understand. If you click on the blue headline, in the feedburner email, it brings up the original post and the replies.
thank you Floyd, now I can enjoy TFL like I use to and thank you for all you do!
Thanks for your response - that problem is no longer!
However, I've been posting about sourdough in Somerset over the past few days, but the thread is not showing in the daily update. Is there something I'm not doing?
Hope you can help!
until recently, the last notification was on Sept. 21 and since then nothing more. I've signed up again with Feedburner recently which keeps telling me that I'm on their subscription list.
I really miss those notification...
What do I need to do ? I had no problem before Pls help.
Nothing has changed on my end: the notifications are still being sent by Feedburner at the same time every day. You could try signing up again or check your spam folder to see if maybe your email provided decided they don't like it.
