Meunerie Milanaise Flour for Toronto and GTA bakers

Hi everyone,

I am a home bread baker from Toronto. I have been lurking around these forums for a good half a year, soaking in all the great information here.

Quite recently I got into baking French artisan baguettes and the results have been fantastic - family, friends, neighbors and colleagues love them. The best compliment I got is when my wife took 6 baguettes I baked to her pot-luck party at work and someone said they tasted just like the ones that person tried in Paris. That person then proceeded to ask my wife if her husband were French (I am not:-) Perhaps, what really helped me improve the results is using a combination of poolish and levain (as described in the Tartine Bread book) and the La Milanaise T55 flour. I did experiment with other flours and La Milanaise is still the winner.

So, this brings me to the point of this posting. I have been trying to find a source of La Milanaise flour in Toronto/GTA that  can supply in larger quantities (5kg, 20kg) at competitive prices. $5.99 per 2kg bags just doesn't cut it for me as I go through at least 12, sometimes 20kg of flour per month. I am currently working with the nice folks at Meunerie Milanaise to find the most optimal source for GTA bakers and one of their suggestions was to find other bakers and order in bulk to bring the cost down. So, if you are in GTA and are interested in buying La Milanaise flour on a regular basis, send me a message and indicate your monthly usage. My plan is to find the most optimal retailer in GTA and work with them further to get them order in larger bags for us and see what discount we can get based on the total expected volume, or order from Quebec (Meunerie folks gave me the name of distributor that ships to GTA, but we need bulk to bring the shipping cost down).

Happy baking and happy holidays,

Victor

I used to buy larger bags from The Sweet Potato, but believe they have permanently switched suppliers for some reason. I know that Organic Abundance used to carry the smaller bags of La Meunerie Milanaise, and you may be able to piggy-back on their orders if you ask. I would like to go splits on their flour- as it is a good product, but I now live across the pond. Good luck with the baguettes.

Victor, where have you been purchasing this flour to date?  I tried earlier this year to source it locally but had some problems getting answers from them.

Franc,

I found a small health food store close to where I live. I got the address from the official distributor for GTA area - UNFI Canada. Phone : 905-738-4204. Give them a call and they will give you a list of retailers close to your location.
