Are bubbles a good sign of a good starter?

I have a 100% rye starter that i keep at a mashed potatoes consistency, when i feed it, it seems to form a lot of small bubbles against the glass jar. Than within 4-6 hours there are fewer bubbles, but they are a lot bigger  ( it also doubled in size)

Sounds like a healthy starter to me!

Sounds great. In the first few days of a starter some bubbles can be due to bacteria. However, after that, in a healthy starter the bubbles are normally a sign of the yeasts working. If it doubles in size in 4-6 hours, that should be great for baking. Daisy_A
