"Pizza" Project

One of the traditions of Purim (a very festive Jewish holiday celebrating an ancient victory) is to send gifts of food to friends.  Because the day is so full of fun, many people try to provide a laugh along with the treats.  This year, I decided pizza and beer would be fun.  How is that fun?

Because they're cookies!

I made about 25 which my son, dressed as a messy teenage "pizza guy" delivered (with beer).  A strange combination, but it brought out the smiles.

I'll get back to bread next week!  Thanks for letting me share.

wins the prize! Were those huge cookies or small pizza boxes? In any case, very lucky recipients and lots of fun.

Great idea Marni. Is that strawberry jam... with cream cheese icing? Yum! And some sort of dried fruit---blueberries or raisins? You must give up details.

Thank you all for the kind comments.  I really had fun doing this and seeing my friends' responses.  Lots of laughs.

The cookie is a basic sugar cookie that I cut as 8" "personal pizzas", the "tomato sauce" is strawberry jam, frosting is a basic vanilla buttercream and the "olives" are chopped black licorice jelly beans.  I have done this one other time, making one full sized pizza and adding fruit leather "pepperoni".   I just couldn't get the color and size right for this size pizza.

I made the cookie crusts in advance, froze them and then just assembled them all the night before delivery.

Marni, what a wonderful tradition and your "pizzas" were looking so pizza-like at first that I suspected you were experimenting with string cheese, until I learned the cheese was icing.

I love the sharing aspect of the food preparation.  Can you tell us more about the tradition?

Thanks you Sylvia and Gosia!  I was hoping to throw people off at first glance - I'm glad it worked!  Gosia, Freideleebs found two informative links explaining the holiday and the food traditions.

Freideleebs, I'm glad you like them.  I have considered making real pizzas, but am concerned about  the food safety of making and delivering so many pizzas. I like making everything the night before so I'm not so frantic on Purim day.

Thank you for finding and posting the links.  They're just the thing!
