Bread Challenge for New Story

I'm working on a new story that revolves around a prize-winning loaf of bread. For reasons I won't bore you with here, the ingredients must be limited to:

  • Flour (any type, any grind)
  • Yeast
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Honey

I'm having trouble finding recipes that contain only these ingredients, so I thought I'd throw it to all of you here at TFL. There are no restrictions on how the bread is made: all techniques are fine.

Thanks,

Tim

Here is one:

Floyd's Daily Bread

Quite tasty but it does take a bit of practice.

Actually you should find no shortage of recipes that are just flour, water, yeast, and salt: those are the only ingredients allowed in many types of artisan bread (classic French baguettes for example).

Thanks.  Yeah, I've been baking artisan breads for quite a while now.  It's the addition of honey (which is very important to the story) that changes things a bit.

How much honey are you proposing to use? I have made Floyd's recipe, and many similar, with and without honey (anywhere between 1-3 tbs for the Daily Bread) and I haven't noticed much if any difference.

which is a German and Swiss type of honey cake, that was traditionally made with rye flour, sweetened with honey and spices? Each town or region had it's own version.  I don't have my baking book handy, but they may have versions that are risen with yeast.  The recipes that I've read come from "Festive Baking" by Sarah Kelly Iaia.

Fun to meet a fellow writer; I have a story I need to pull out of the files and finish, which is based on the legends surrounding the chocolate dessert Rigo Jancsi.  Food plus fiction is fun!

That, the list of ingredients, would fit just about any of the honey whole wheat bread recipes that I've read.
