Seam shows on bottom of sandwich loaf

Hello Everyone,

Well, I always have the issue of the seam showing on the bottom of my bread loaves. Take a simple white sandwich bread in a 9 x 5 loaf pan. I stretch and seal my dough when shaping but can never get a smooth bottom on my finished product. You can always see the seam after the bread is baked. Any suggestions?

Best,

Casey

I was hoping someone would respond to this, because I am curious too. I would have thought seeing a seam on the bottom of the loaf is totally normal. Certainly all my bread has visible bottom seams. Is it not supposed to?

I'm pretty sure it should be smooth and seamless. Sometimes I get a nice, smooth exterior but most of the time it looks like the picture.

I usually get visible seams, too.  I think the only way to avoid them is to have wetter dough, so that it can join together more easily.  Or you could put the shaped dough into the pan seam side up.  Then the seam might play the role of a slash on the top and open up during rise and bake.  Some people like to do that.
