Yet another award for Richard Bertinet

Richard Bertinet named BBC Food Champion of the Year

Yesterday afternoon, Richard was named BBC Food Champion of the year 2010, at the Food & Farming awards held at the BBC Good Food Show in Birmingham.

Richard was nominated by listeners of Radio 4's Food Programme who were asked to pick an individual who had inspired them to think differently about food and who had used their work in the past 12 months to give fresh insights into the food we eat.  12  high profile judges including Angela Hartnett (Chair of Judges), Mark Hix, Charles Campion, Sheila Dillon (presenter of the Food Programme) and Rose Prince chose  the winners in each category.  Last year's winner was Nigel Slater.

The Awards Programme will air on BBC Radio 4 at 9am this Friday November 26th.

Richard is delighted that through his bread books, teaching and new bread range he has been recognised as having brought about a greater understanding of good bread.  He hopes that this award will encourage an even wider group of people to take a look at the bread they buy, to buy real bread or to have a go at making their own."

I post this information for two reasons:

1 - I think it is great to see a Baker being recognised with a national award voted for by the public;

2 - I attended a Richard Bertinet course almost 4 years ago and it is from then that my real passion for baking developed, so I am now a good bread "disciple" because of Richard Bertinet.
