mixer broke

Toast

The wife and I were making pumpkin pies for tomorrow and the hand held mixer started making a grinding noise. We stopped and checked the mixing attachments; they were properly installed. Started again and got louder and a burning smell and was struggling, bad timing here ! It is a cheap model that had for decades so canned it. There were still chunks of pumpkin and ingredients were not properly mixed enough to put in the blender yet, although that was the only option. Making 3 pies now, I hope that they turn out edible.

Wife is now looking online for a stand mixer that comes with a dough hook, maybe 2-350 range, U.S.$, around 5-6 qt.

Some models come with a C hook and some with a spiral. Do you have a preference? Tilt head mixers usually have a C, the 6-qt KA lift bowl is spiral. Spiral is supposed to be better, one reason being the dough doesn't climb up the hook. Just something to consider.

Thank you for the responses, will definably consider the advice, yes, a good time to buy on sale. The 3 pies turned out ok, we sampled 1, well actually ate about 1/2 of 1, well you know, had to make sure.

I liked the looks of the KitcheAid although the wife sells pampered chef so she checked online and they sell a model called the Deluxe Stand mixer. She had some points built up from sales and she was able to get the mixer reg $359 for less than $100.

It is a tilt-top and I see it does come with the C hook. We had a Black & Decker hand held mixer so this is going to be a change for the better.
