I have 2 pieces the floured surface is perfect. After reading more comments I think my idea is better as the couche serves more than one purpose.
A couche would wrinkle up or move around if you tried some serious shaping on it, I think. Staying flat looks like the one advantage of the felt mat.

I’m not firm enough with my shaping !😂🙏
I don’t know why high hydration bread dough would not stick to felt like it does everything else. It must not be very fuzzy felt and thoroughly dusted with flour. It’s a good video for the proper shaping technique although it seemed a little heavy handed in the degassing. It was interesting how he pushed the bubbles to the edges that would become the center in the final step of sealing the seam. Thanks for sharing Lance
My kids used to love Fuzzy Felt, or "Puzzy Pelt" as they christened it!
But I agree Don, this won't be fuzzy felt. It might be a polyester needle felt like this one? Trouble is you have to buy 5 metres....

I think this is the product he's flogging: https://flourpantry.com/collections/baking-tools/products/matting-in-polyester-soft-fabric-to-shape-baguette-50-x-50cm-wyne-caddy-style-price-includes-vat-copy
more expensive but not 5 metres👍🏼
