Bread Machine vs Stand Mixer

My bread machine died and I'm looking to replace it. I had considered replacing it with an expensive mixer but I have been making our bread in my Kitchen Aid mixer since my bread machine broke I’m beginning to reconsider that decision. For one thing the bread machines cost so much less and the ease of use with a bread machine is so much greater than with a mixer.

I had an old Betty Crocker II machine that I bought sometime in the late 80's or early 90's. I never used my machine to bake in I just used it to mix my dough. It could mix enough dough to make 2 loaves of bread and I loved it!!! I would just put my ingredients into the machine, set the timer and when I came back my dough was ready to shape and place in the pans. The last few weeks of using the Kitchen Aid mixer to make my dough is enough to make a person give up baking bread. I have been making all the bread we eat for a very long time and I really don’t want to stop.

Of course they don't make those Betty Crocker machines anymore and I was looking at the T-Fal Emerilware Bread-and-Baguette Maker…it is supposed to mix 3 pounds of dough which is what I used to mix in my old 2 pound machine for two loaves of bread.

I'm thinking this is the machine for me but since I haven't used any other machine I thought I might ask around and see what other people are using and how well they like their machines.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What can I say - I thought I was the only person in the world who loved my bread machine.  I started in 1992 with my first machine and have worn out 4 machines.  I just purchased the Emerilware machine and I love it, it makes 3 lbs of dough.  Like you, I have only used the machine as a dough machine.  I do not like the crust on the bread when it is cooked in the machine.  I purchased my machine from the Emeril site.  However, you will be disappointed in the baguettes.  They are very small, like 6 inches and 2 inches around.  Cute, but not what I expected.  You can write me if you want to at suelynn@bayou.com.  I have adjusted some recipes to make 3 lbs of bread dough, but I am still working on it.  SueLynn

I'm so sorry that I just now saw this post...I'm not using that email address anymore and I just went in there to clean it out and found this post.

I bought the Emerilware machine as well...I really like it. I think it's going to be just what I was looking for.

Thanks,

Betty
