Central Milling - back at Costco

Just an FYI for anyone who may be interested. I was just at Costco. They had Central Milling unbleached all purpose flour at that store, price worked out to be $0.55/lb. It was in the usual, large economy Costco size packaging. Plan ahead if you want to stock the pantry at all. Holiday baking isn't all that far away. 😉

Cool.   It's just called AP, not Beehive or anything like that?

THB, I didn't take a close enough look. I saw the Central Milling label and that it was AP and kept walking.

Costco is international, and also varies by location.  Where are you?

I've been using it (in California) for several years. Central Milling Organic All Purpose flour.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first saw it so I called Central Milling and asked. They told me it's custom milled for Costco and is closest to (but not identical to) their Organic Beehive.

It's a good value, way less than half the price of Beehive even though I can drive to Petaluma to pick up my flour, which is what I do for bread flour. I don't know how widely Costco distributes it to their stores but if you can use 20# of AP flour it's a great bargain.

They also custom mill flour for Whole Foods (365 brand) and I think Safeway, probably the same flour?

Great, thanks Tom.  I'd forgotten about the 365, and I seemed to recall reading somewhere someone saying it was just re-branded Beehive, but now it seems perhaps it's a custom flour.  Great to know.
