Oatcakes: The Correct Way?

I did try to make oatcakes a few times this year and both attempts didn't come out the way as depicted in pictures I've seen.

Now I was trying to produce Dark Age Oatcakes, which would been made with Oats grounded with Quern-stones. The resulting meal would have been mixed with water and a bit of salt and some honey if any. Then cooked on the coals or white ash of the Hearth.

This was of unleavened flatbread and sort of looked like oatmeal cookies. So anyone from the British Isles made this before? What did you used?

There are a number of oatcake recipes in Elizabeth David's English Bread and Yeast Cookery.

This is what I baked last night. Note that I don't have a rolling pin or cookie cutter. Neither a board to roll the dough on either.
