Need Narrow Loaf Bread Machine - suggestions?

My bread machine makes great loaves but the slices are to wide and too high. Slices are too tall for my toaster, and are larger than I like for making sandwiches. Are there any bread machines out their that make a taller more narrow loaf (closer to store bought loaf size) instead of a squat, fat loaf?

Hi!

You might want to check out the Zojirushi Virtuoso or Breadmaker Supreme models (both produce longer loaves) or the West Bend 41300 Hi Rise Breadmaker (similar in design, but lower in price and not quite as sturdily built).

Another option is to use the bread machine you have like a mixer (on the dough cycle), and then shape the dough, pop it into a regular bread pan for its final rise, and bake it in the oven. Even though we had the Zojirushi, we ended up using it that way most of the time as the loaves just seemed to turn out a lot better.  It really isn't difficult to do. We also did this for quite a while with a very old Welbilt bread maker that produced square loaves.

If you do want to purchase a new breadmaker, there is a lot of information on the Zojirushi and the West Bend here on TFL. :) The Panasonic SD-YD250 is also well liked, but produces a loaf shorter in length than the other two.

Happy baking!
