I saw this in the Santa Cruz Sentinel, the local newspaper for Santa Cruz county. Thought folks here might be interested to read a little bit about Ortiz's biography.

Bakers are talented and creative forces the world just can't handle - like truth :-)
I suspect he's referring to escaping imposed social structures which are internalised and then we self-police and thus creating our own psychological barriers and structures.
