Any dog lovers out there?

I just picked up a book...Real Food for Dogs...Yes, you read correctly.  Has some interesting recipes for your favorite pooch.  I'm going to try some out.  Josie's birthday is coming up next week.  She'll be 5 years old (that would be 35 in dog years; D)

Sourdough Disposal

Not really, they always want some raw starter, but only eat a bite or two.  They love fresh bread, but after it sits in the freezer all week, it's pretty much squirrel food.  Plain white sourdough bread is their favorite.

Steph, what kind of bread recipes does that cook book have, for hounds?

There aren't any bread recipes, but it has cookies, biscuits, brownies, and other treats.  Most contain wheat flour, eggs, cornmeal, and such.  There are other recipes for stews and even soup!!  There's even a recipe that contains pasta.  I don't know about that one, but I might try the one with meatballs. ;-D  Josie's birthday is on the 8th of February.  She'll be five.  I try not to give her too much people food, except veggies, but I do let her lick a plate or two and give her leftovers, depending on what it is, if it isn't enough for another meal.  I loath throwing food away.  She loves baby carrots (they're sweeter than regular carrots) and tomatoes.  I often wonder if my crop this summer was low because she was helping herself.  I know my sister had that problem when she brought her plants indoors when it startied getting cold.  Her Newfoundlands (two of them) and doxies (two of them) were caught several times nabbing tomatoes off the vine.  Too funny.

My "child with fur" loves

My "child with fur" loves bread...in all forms. He is 7 and a poodle maltese cross named Filbert. He is 7.

As far as cooking for him, my husband taught him to eat human food. so he gets table scraps.  So in a way, I cook for them both simultaneously.

Good luck with the recipes.

Dog Treats

I have been making my own dog treats for Chelsey (she is 2 months old here, now 9 months) She loves them. She also loves my homemade bread.

Rick, pic doesn't show up

I worry about giving Josie bread, especially if it isn't cooked.  But, once she got into the trash where I had thrown a bad loaf away.  I was at work, so I couldn't stop her.  She stashed pieces around the house and for a week I'd find her nawing on a piece.  Even found crumbs in my bed!!  Didn't seem to do her any harm, though.  So that's good.

dogs - wheat allergies

Keep in mind that many dogs have an allergic reaction to wheat that causes gas, diarrhea, dry skin and hot spots, among other things. Your domesticated wolf did not, after all, evolve to eat wheat, or any other grains other than what may have been found in the stomach of its prey.
