ipod cake for my 14 year old

My older son turned 14 yesterday.  It has become traditional for me to create a personalized cake for my children on their birthdays... but what to make for a teenager?  We have made fire engines, owls, and baseball diamonds in the past.   But his favorite thing now is his ipod - hence:

The ipod cake!

He loved it, and that is what it's all about.

Very nice, Marni.  Was that a chocolate-based cake with cream cheese icing?  I've always been curious about the writing.  Do you use the usual tube that's sold in supermarkets (the one with a bag?).  I ask because I've never attempted to do any writing on the icing!

Thank you!

Technically it wasn't a cake, it was a 9x13 brownie, double thickness, but for birthday candle purposes it was his cake.  The frosting is a regular buttercream.  I tinted the frosting for the blue sections and made it a bit thicker and tinted it brown for the writing.  I have the tube and tips for decorating, but for a plain line like that, I find it easiest to just use a sandwich bag and cut a tiny hole in the corner. My writing on cakes is generally terrible - this is one of my better attempts.
