Back to Baking Basics

Hello!

Back in 2013, I'd gotten into baking quite heavily to try to quit smoking. I really enjoy the workout, end result and the figurin' stuff out in between. Since then, a lot had taken me away from breads and goodstuff and all I learned kinda oozed outta my head. I remember this forum being really positive and beneficial, so I dug up my old account! Hello from The World!

I'm extremely open to any good tips for starting out again. I'm currently (like Right Now) making a small loaf as a test what I got in me. :)

But the internet seems to have gotten to a state of "Full of Information, but out of reach" in terms of searchability. And I've no libraries around me. So.. I seek community!

I'm hoping to get back into Sourdough in a big way, so any starter tips are welcome and appreciated!

Bagels are on the docket 'cos I cannot find them ANYWHERE around me.

For my spouse, I'll be doing some scandanavian flatbreads, and will share all the different things.

So, again! Hello! And I hope to be able to learn and help others as well!

First, welcome back to the site.  Also, I hope that you still are not smoking (keep your lungs clean).

One suggestion I have for giving you a refresher course in baking and also supplying you with good ideas is to get a book on baking bread.  Two that come to mind are the classic by Ken Forkish (Flour Water Salt Yeast) and the newer one from Maurizio Leo (The Perfect Loaf).  Both of them contain step-by-step descriptions of baking a loaf of bread, and that will help you get your head back in the game.

Let us know what you end up doing, and be sure to share some photos of your bread.

Happy baking.

Ted
