My old (2013) KitchenAid KSM75WH needs replacement. With something a lot stronger. And larger than five quarts. It has always really struggled with dough - especially on slow speeds.
So power is probably the most important feature. And reliability/durability.
I don't need lots of attachments… paddle and dough hook only, I think.
And ideally dual voltage (110v US + 240v UK).
An inplace cover (with a 'shoot'/feeder) to stop unwanted 'distribution' would be useful!
I've scoured the threads here and read the reviews. But am confused by the quantity of options.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations and guidance…
Is the Ankarsrum method still considered a 'class apart'? Should I avoid Kitchen Aid: I've read very positive reports about this model?
You could consider getting a rebuilt KitchenAide, a larger and more powerful model, from Mr. Mixer:

Right now they have both a 7 qt Proline and a commercial grade 8 qt available:

Thanks, Tom!
After - in the end - I felt that Kitchen Aid was perhaps not the most reliable of brands, I was thinking of avoiding them.
Do they still have a good reputation?
The Proline 7 quart for top marks in a review on America's Test Kitchen. But that was 12 years ago!
If you go with a rebuilt Mr. Mixer, you will get a machine that is better than brand new. So it should match up with that 12-year-old one that ATK reviewed. KitchenAide replaced some key metal gears with some kind of reinforced plastic and I think most of the complaints about KA quality have occurred since that time. I suppose they have made other changes to reduce the manufacturing cost too.
You can call him and he will be very happy to answer any questions. He fixed my old KA and I gave it to my daughter and I bought a rebuilt from him and it is perfect . All metal parts. He has a great warranty and prices. He's the single person doing this service and has years of excellent reviews. Check his Facebook page. c
I was going to say don't get the KA Pro600. I checked out the KA 7qt that you linked and it does look good. Much more powerful motor than the 6qt, and metal gears, apparently. I can't find any difference in quality between the Pro Line 7 qt and the model you linked, the KSM-70. That looks worthy of serious consideration.
Thanks, Tom, trailrunner and and Moe C.
If it weren't for all the positive things I've read about the Ankarsrum (is it still considered the best of its kind and superior to every (other) planetary?) a KA like this one might be my frontrunner.
