Hobart
HI I have an old Hobart that I bought about 20 years ago. I think its a C10, but not sure. I'm looking for a dough hook for it. Can anyone tell me where I could get one or post a photo of one so I can get one made? Thanks in advance. I'm in the UK

Endless apologies if you already knew this.
Best wishes. Dave
Many thanks! I have got in touch with them. I dont suppose you would know how old the mixer is?
Sally
Here is the thing with these mixers, When they were sold and the age of the parts is not the same. I suspect they took the US casting of the main drive unit and bolted on 240v motors from a local manufacturer. As these were larger, the feet needed to be modified to cope. In Aust they went nuts and bolted on huge 1/3 hp motors and they are awesome and a little crazy....
You will notice the quality of the casting of the main body is different. It has all the quality of US casting from the 1st half of the 20C. It is beautifully done.
If that is the case, the main drive unit casting and gears are probably pre WWII (potentially even earlier and had to be before the US transitioned to the C100 model). I have no real knowledge of the UK versions so take this with a huge grain of salt....but I wouldn't be surprised if yours was sold in 59 if the number plate is actually 59 (YEAR) 17 (WEEK) s 9.
I can't help you there. Good luck.sally cashen
Yours should be a Hobart CE100 (the UK variant). You can tell by the motor and how the legs meet the feet. There are a couple of examples on the web if you want to see the details. I am fairly sure you should have a more powerful motor that the US models (i.e the c210 is only 1/8hp). Your motor rating should be on the motor plate if it is still there under the paint. (Note this is different to the Hobart mixer plate)
BEATERS
Just a heads up, one of the most useful beaters for these 10qts is the Superdoughhoook 10qt pastry knife (link below). It has become my most used beater. In addition to a pastry knife, it's an amazing dry ingent mixer - and the biggest surprise is as a dough hook for high hydration doughs. (e.g. panettone and doughs over 80% - for these doughs the actions for some reason work more like a spiral mixer.wet doughs)

DOUGH HOOKS
Hobart 10qt dough hook
Probably the best is the Hobart 10Qt is the one designed for the Hobart HS10. You will need to get a sleeve insert for the dough hook as the newer HS10s have a much thicker shaft that these older mixers.

3rd party 10qt dough hook
There are a few of 3rd party 10qt dough hooks that come up on eBay. Just beware, you need to check the dough hooks are designed for the direction of rotation of these mixers. You can tell buy the way the connection key is cut into the top of the beater.

MISSING DRIP RING
FYI - you will probably want to get the missing drip ring made at some point. Just to keep any of the mechanisms oil from dripping into your bowl. Sadly it would be highly unlikely to find a second hand one.
When you do, put a call out to get dimensions for the missing part. It is different to the more common C100 10 quart. In addition, you could see if anyone else wants one as it often substantially cheeper per item to have more than 1 fabricated.
Wow!
Thanks so much!
I tried the contact suggested by another helpful contributor, but alas they don't have any at present and they don't make them. So I will have a look at your suggestions. My nephew has offered to make one if all else fails, but I'm sure an original will be best, and yes a collar will help. I have only just realised that the thing with the screw at the front is to attach a mincer, is that correct?
I will let you know how I get on with the dough hook, The machine is deffo Europian, I'm not sure what you mean by a pastry knife?
I see what a pastry knife is. There is a plate on the machine as attached. The machine sits on two feet not a plate. How old would the machine be do you think?

Yes, that small projection is the attachment hub. The super useful thing about these machines is they have the same attachment hub as KItchenaids - (#10 size).
That means you can use all the kitchenaid attachments on your machine - including all the vintage attachments. The only difference is that as the hub on these mixers are direct drive from the main shaft so you can't change the speed of the hub attachments - but the torque that comes with that setup is super useful.
TIPS
MINCER- get an all stainless 3rd party one. They are built like tanks and you can dishwasher them. You will need one with a hopper that you can face forward so it doesn't clash with the motor. (May want to look at something like the "Chefschoice")
JUICER - the vintage kitchenaid ones are the best. The earlier Mode-G version is a absolute juicing demon.
PASTA - This is the only modern Kitchenaid attachment I own/use. Get the 3 pice stainless set. (HINT- don't get the plastic ones - they won't last with the torque of your machine.)
ICE CREAM - The vintage kitchenaid 2qt (rock salt & Ice method) that has the fibreglass tub are awesome. It can turn the mixture into ice-cream in 4min flat.
GRATER/VEGETABLE SLICER. If you can swing it get the vintage pelican head set. Big - but so easy to clean. (P.S. If you want to do ice-cream you need the ice crushing disk too.)
STONE GRINDER - for these machines the Mockmill Kitchenaid attachment is hard to beat.
Given how high the attachment hub is off the bench, It is useful to have a laboratory scissor lift platform (you can get them on eBay). So useful for getting the bowl at just the right heigh or holding the attachment up
Two other suppliers to try.

The part number should be: hobart 144556
Just do a search and see if you can find a supplier somewhere.
Hi, if you have the spare time, would you be able to look at this hook on ebay.co.uk for me and advise as to whether its suitable for my Hobart please?
No worries if you cant, just appreciate your knowledge and my lack of it.

Hi. Sadly that one is a larger machine (and probably not a Hobart).
The correct size of beater that fits your machine is 25.4cm high (or 10 inches).
FYI - I suspect that is not for a Hobart as all the larger Hobart machines spin in the opposite direction. Only the Hobart machines with #10 hub (Hobart 10quarts and kitchenaids) spin in the direction of your machine.
If the image is of the actual item listed for sale, this looks like it might work.

I would check with the seller.
Thanks!, Am waiting for a reply from the seller. Hopefully it will work out!
They say it wont fit unfortunately.
Sally
This one is the correct size and orientation as for your machine.

In addition to the flat beater, also comes with a stainless flat beater...always useful. Just a heads up, you may need to get someone to put in a sleeve - but that is fairly simple.
OK...don't mean to scare you ...these mixers are a dream to own - almost nothing beats them for home.
However, it sounds like you are just starting out and I thought the information I had learnt along the way may give you some starting points about how to get it up and in service again.
If you need a bowl, just a hint - the new stainless 10qt Hobart bowls are designed for the C100. These are exactly the same size, but just have a wider outside lip than the original 10qt bowl ( the C100 mixers were sold with the original bowl with the smaller lip so they are interchangeable on that machine).
Hence, if you do need to use those one of the new bowls, you would just need to get someone to cut away 2 small notches in the lip where the legs are to allow the bowl to fit your mixer.
Hi! Yes I have the bowl thanks! I"m shocked at the price if the hooks TBH. Not knocking the quality, just taken aback I guess! I'm paranoid about buying a hook now that may not fit, and recall only paying £100 for the machine
😁.
I need to sit down and study the model number to check I'm on the right road.
Great advice everyone, thank you again!!
Could anyone tell me why some hooks are not suitable for pizza dough?
Sally
Do you mean J shaped hook vs Spiral hooks (E=J shaped / ED=spiral) or is it another question about the differenced between spiral hook designs?
Sally,
Just an FYI - there is this stainless one on eBay if you don't already have one
.
