Home processor permit in the US

Wondering if anyone who has a home processor permit in the US uses a Rofco oven, we are interested in using a Rofco B40 but are unsure if that is considered commercial equipment, which is not allowed with this permit. We are also considering a 30 qt mixer in the future...

Thanks!

This can vary from state to state. Most want to have a UL listing for the product. This seems to have a CE listing, which is for Europe. "The CE marking (an acronym for the French “Conformite Europeenne”) certifies that a product has met EU health, safety, and environmental requirements, which ensure consumer safety."

The specs are on the Pleasant Hill site. https://pleasanthillgrain.com/rofco-electric-stone-oven-b40-bread-oven#specs

There are probably plenty of "Cottage" bakers using the oven, that's why it's best to check with your specific state/county inspectors. Many "Cottage" permits don't require an inspection, so using that oven wouldn't be a problem unless your insurance company had set requirements.

Good luck with your business!

Thank you so much for the info! We’re in NY, we don’t require an inspection for our permit but our permit states that no commercial equipment is allowed to be used in our home kitchen and the way they define commercial equipment is anything that’s not considered ordinary kitchen facilities. We rent and our landlords said the Rofco is fine with their insurance but it just seems like the rofco is not ordinary kitchen equipment but could be argued that it is not commercial and we could easily argue it could be ordinary kitchen equipment for us… we eat a lot of bread! Lol

There is no figuring how some of the ordinances were formulated. Some make sense and some are real head scratchers. Sounds like you're on your way though.

If you have questions, I know you can contact Pleasant Hill Grain. They are very helpful when it  comes to equipment. I know there are other Rofco owners here so they may chime in too.

Best wishes for your success!
