Grinding Small Quantities of Rye Malt
I purchased some rye malts from NY Bakers to try the recipes in The Rye Baker. I don't have a grain mill but I do have burr and blade coffee grinders. Which one would be more effective to grind the malts for use? I'm trying to avoid purchasing yet another gadget.
Either will work. Malts are much more fragile than the grain and break easily. You may want to run some rice through the grinder first to get rid of the coffee smell.
Thanks for the tip about rice. I was trying to think of some sacrificial product to grind to purge the coffee smell, but I have plenty of rice.
