Ankarsrum Questions

I have the opportunity to buy an Ankarsrum which has shown very little use (the recipient preferred her kitchenaid), it's in the original box and complete, along with deluxe kit (with blender, complete), for $600.

Obviously there would be no 7 year warranty as its been used before.

Is this a good deal?  Is the Ankarsrum good for smaller jobs as well, or is it only useful when making moderate and larger jobs?

I have one and I love it. It is used, must be 15 years old and still runs like it is new. The design is so simple, it is a joy to add ingredients too, to clean, everything.

If I had to pick between a new $280 kitchenaid and a used $600 ankersum, I would pick the ankersum. My kitchen aid is nice, but its bolts get loose, it is underpowered for some tasks, and it is cumbersome.

Yes, it works fine for smaller jobs.

EDIT: or rather, the smallest job you would want to do in the ankersum is probably slightly bigger than the smallest job you would do in a kitchenaid.

Bfeeny, it is a great mixer, I have done some very small test batches of dough -  in the range of 150 grams, and it was fine.  That said,  $600 sounds like a lot to me.  I just did a search on ebay, and they have been selling in the $300 to $500 range.  Note that if you are going to use ebay, you might search under the older names - it has always been made by the same maker, but prior distributors called it the Magic Mill ,  Electrolux,  AEG.   Some of the older models are 450 watts v. the current 600,  though I have the 450 watt model and it has plenty of power.

Barry,

Do you have links to those $300 to $500 ebay listings? I can only find 1940's Electrolux Assistants at that price. Also, his like-new $600 offer comes with the accessory pack which is I think another $400 brand new.

I didn't see much listed today,  but here is a completed search that says what was sold from Oct to the present.   I ignored the very low priced ones -  someone bought one  for $150 and another sold for $180 - they are the magic mills, not the older square front style.   ebay completed items  Note that there were originally sold without the plastic bowl and whips, but you can get that the bowls and whips from amazon for around $70.  https://www.amazon.com/Ankarsrum-Original-Complete-Double-Beater/dp/B00D6D4HAW/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAn7L-BRBbEiwAl9UtkIn_OE7Lc1NQnzyIZgXkvNLYOi04f0ML4xyl0YhL3C2qH2EXJzcw8RoCgwEQAvD_BwE&hvadid=397160334200&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9008533&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=b&hvrand=4580246345872041376&hvtargid=kwd-345953753006&hydadcr=13964_10210829&keywords=ankarsrum+mixer+attachments&qid=1607258815&sr=8-2&tag=googhydr-20

I know Covid has driven prices up, but with a little patience, I think that $400 to $500 is doable.  I have a free standing blender,  so I would not use the blender accessory.

I've bought mixers with accessory packs before and they are still in the cupboard. Make sure you would actually use them.
