you wouldn't have to smoke the toppings (which sounds a bit nasty) ;-) .

I can attest to Apizza Scholls being fabulous pizza, having lived in Portland (or PDX as they all refer to it).  Their truffle oil white pizza is incredibly aromatic when delivered to the table and a wonderful flavor.  The early reputation as an oddball service place has dissipated over the years, all for the good.  Annually they and Ken's Artisan Pizza - yes, that Ken, jockey back and forth for best local pizza.  We are returning to PDX for the summer and we can't wait to sink our teeth into some of each again.  There's an awful lot of good pizza and bread in that town.  Did I mention the ales?

Home made sausages and pepperoni of course but the onions and mushrooms too ......and they are incredible maybe a cheese or two as well......... but that is about all the toppings you can get there.   He onlhy has a few pie choices and toppings avilable.  We had reservations at Tratos, Chris's really fine Italian restaurant, on Saturday but we forgot all about it since we have to make them so far in advance.  They called us and said..... hey did you have a reservation we are now cancelling:-)  Months wasted and now they probably won't give us another one:-(

and congratulations on your city making the list. We were recently in Portland, and fortunate enough to have the opportunity to eat at Ken's Pizzeria, as well as the bakery. Both locations lived up to the hype, and we were not disappointed. Delicious! We will definitely try Bianco's next time we're in Phoenix. Next time you're in Austin, try Home Slice. Also, your daughter is right. It's tough to beat home made!  marybeth
