The bounty of the weekend bake!

Foreground is cinnamon, sugar chocolate babka. I enjoyed the last one so much it was time to bake another. I used 2 x 300 gram balls of dough to roll out the babka. The remaining 253 grams of pulla dough was used to roll out the blueberry cream cheese bread front right.  In behind is a ciabatta style loaf with 20% durham semolina which resulted in a really nice snap to the crust!

Well, I was on my way to the ski hill and then it started raining.

Happy baking! Ski

No wonder with all the sweets hanging around though.  Well done and happy baking Ski - sorry about the rain.

I tried to hide the ciabatta style loaf in the back. It tasted great with 20% durham semolina and I will bake another of this formula again after I try a savoury bread with garlic, rosemary, sun dried tomatoes , olives and parmigiana using the same formula. Great to have the sweets around for a quick pre ski snack. Or a quick apres ski snack for that matter. The babka goes well with Cali cabs!

Blueberries, Durum wheat, some of my favourite things not to mention the Global Knife - I have a set, nothing better than a sharp knife!

Some tasty bakes going on there Ski!

I love my Global knives! They are the sharpest I have ever used. I bought the bread knife after my Henckels went missing. I was so impressed I bought the 6" chefs knife and is the only knife I now use for food prep. As a long time woodworker, I would polish my kitchen knives on 1000 grit Japanese water stone and finish with a 4000 grit. Not even that treatment on good steel can compete with the Global surgical stainless steel, machine polished. You got to love a sharp knife!

Nice baking Ski!  I need to loose another 15 lbs and then I can try those wonderful breads!

I am fortunate that living in a mountain town and being as active out doors as I am, I can eat these sweet things daily and not gain weight. It is a pleasure! Hey, the babka is fattening, but Floyd's blueberry, cream cheese bread is not all that sweet and you could always up the fruit and cut back the sugar . . .

That's like baking a chocolate cake and leaving out the icing! :)  Hopefully the weather will warm up around here soon so I can start all of my outdoor projects and spring cleanup.  That should burn a few babkas worth of calories!

Puttering about in the kitchen is a good thing to do on a rainy day - especially when the results look as good as that :-)

Since I only ski vicariously, I better enjoy that babka in the same manner. <sigh>

I enjoy my time in the kitchen cooking and baking. All three of these bakes were fun to do and great to eat. You need the real, rather than virtual babka.  Even as an old active ski bum, when the babka is baked, I slice it and double bag the slices and inevitable crumbs and freeze it. I allow myself one slice per day. Leaving it on the counter is just WAY too much temptation.
