what does 1 gram of dried yeats look like ?

Can anyone say what 1 gram of dried yeast looks like in terms of divisions of a teaspoon - e.g 1/8th ? - more or less ???

:)  It's pretty light stuff so it takes up a lot of volume.

Hi Mini Oven

Is that a US or a British 1/2 teaspoon? I read recently that there is a signifigant difference between the two.

I believe flynnboy is in Ireland and I seem to remember you are in Austria, so you might both be using the same teaspoon scale, but I don't know and just thought I'd mention it.

I just went up and weighed out a gram of Active Dry as well as Instant yeast and with my US 1/2 teaspoon and you are right.

teaspoons were bought in the US.  From water weight one teaspoon holds 5g water.  One gram of yeast cake is about the size of a sweet pea, 1 cm diameter

I got a nifty spoon scale.  :)  (order one from Father Christmas!)

Wanna know how much yeast an expresso spoon can hold?

How about yeast I can pile into an ear wax spoon?   They are sooooo tiny!  I have one (clean naturally) in my stivia jar.  :)

1 teaspoon (U.S.) Instant dry yeast = 3.1 grams = .1 oz

Have we decided on 1 gram = 1/4 British teaspoon or 1/2 ?

Thanks for all of your input, I can't weigh 1 gram.

go with either a slightly rounded 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml)

or

a slightly not level 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml)   <grin>

"I can't weigh 1g."     < I know, more fun for us than you!>  Maybe you should tell us more about how you are using this 1 g of yeast and we could suggest more or less yeast.  ???  :)

Should you be searching for a half teaspoon of the poet, The Yeats Society might get you closer but asking might be considered tasteless and I wouldn't count on anything left after 1938 as being fresh.  http://www.yeatssociety.com

:)   How'd ya come out?
