Hello from the DC area!
Hey There,
I am a serious home based baker from the Maryland/DC area. I am constantly trying to find time to bake. I own a Bosch Universal Plus and a 1980s era Kitchenaid.
Baking is my therapy.
Cheers,
Pericles
Hi there Pericles,
you will LOVE it here.
So many wonderful helpful people here.
I have learned so much since I joined.
I am German but live in the UK since 1997.
Happy baking.
Having bread is a good thing but there's so much more that I get out of baking than just the bread.
Welcome, Pericles.
Paul
We are practically, or possibly, neighbors. I live right on the DC/Maryland border. The Takoma Park/Silver Spring food coop and the Whole Foods in Silver Spring have nice assortments of flours. There is a guy at the Dupont Circle Farmers Market on Sundays who sells a few different types of freshly milled flour and wheat berries. There's also quite a few bread bakers here and there.
By the way, it looks like the cherry blossoms will be late this year. They are absolutely beautiful when they are at their peak, though it tends to get crowded around the Tidal Basin. Definitely worth a trip in. There are also neighborhoods in Bethesda with lots of cherry trees. Here's the bloom information. Scroll down to see what stage the buds and blooms are at.
I went to University there. We were neighbours for a while :)
Brings back memories.
It is a pleasure to come back to such nice responses to my post. I am very excited to participate and learn more from all of you.
@108: I was not aware of the Dupont Circle Farmers Market or it's wheat "connection." I will explore this. Is it currently open? Is it seasonal? I love this time of year with the blooming of the cherry blossoms.
@Paul & Petra: Thank you so much for the kind words. I look forward to interacting with you.
Kindest Regards,
Pericles
