We 3 gmas were on FIRE!
Talk about Lucy being in the kitchen, my sisters' kitchens were safe, because all the bad luck was in mine! When I went to take my bagels out of the oven... my hot pad was wet... yeah, I threw that sheet pan and it bounced into the bottom of the oven, right on the element; a bagel broke loose and landed on the element and immediately burst into flames... by the time I got the racks out and reached in with a set of tongs to grab it... it was flambe'd quite toasty on the bottom... but let's get to the bake... I know this will sound crazy, but I don't know the names of the recipes Barbra and Helen used... Helen just said we were all to make "CHEESE BREAD" of some fashion... the lead in picture is Helen's crumb shot... She will have to reply to this to tell you what recipe she used... here is her full loaf shot... she might tell you about the pan she used too.
Here is Barb's ... looks like it has jalapeno in it...
doesn't it? ... she said it was just spicy enough. So I am guessing it does...
As I mentioned above I made flaming bagels!!! That one in front is the toasty one... The texture is nice and light with a touch of chewiness... Very good... mine are Cheddar and Carmelized Onion Bagels... from cakehunters.com ... We had fun baking together and talking about a ton of things... just not relaying the actual names of recipes... Flames and all it was a great day baking with my sisters.
Happy Baking, Go Seahawks, Go Patriots! Enjoy the game...

That is what the official name of the bread is but I fondly call it delicious stinky cheese bread. The Asiago cheese and black pepper really give the bread a delicious cheesy, peppery flavor and it makes great toast!
My sister's were much more creative than me. Super easy and quickly done. Ignored bread machine and ingredient directions, added two big handfuls of sharp cheddar and about 1/4 cup chopped jalapenos. Fun baking and grateful that Diane's burns were only on fingertips.
Super Bowl baking is next!
A common thread with individual interpretations - love 'em all! And love that you three have such fun as sisters. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!
Cathy
We do have fun and look forward each week to the new ideas... we have gone through a few cookbooks... it is Barb's turn to pick next week... "what to make with Superbowl party leftovers???" I am hoping she doesn't pick up on THAT idea!... As you may know, the 3 of us are a little distance apart... Barb is in northeastern Washington and Helen and I are in Texas about 50 miles apart... these baking days keep us close and connected, I think that might be what Barb had in mind when she invited us to :"test bake" the first edition of ITJB... Thank you Barb and Helen, thank you Stan... and thank you Norm... Here's to many more years of "baking with my sisters!"
Happy Baking, Diane
heebeejeebees!!! She may not recover.....She is now working on a jalapeno, cheese bread recipe that says at the end - once the bread comes out of the oven, quickly place it in a flame proof pan on the stove and flambe it in as much tequila as possible without setting the house on fire!!!! I fear You GMA's are more of a bad influence on her than I am :-)
We like this week's twisted sister baking very much especially the toasted bagel part. It has been forever since we made bagels and almost 3 years since the last time we set the oven on fire making David's San Jouquin for the first time! i've been trying to get around to making a cheese jalapeno bread for a month now, ever since I found some dry cheese sauce powder in the bins at Winco. i was standing in front of the bin looking for the dried chicken soup powder when a lady came up to me and said that I should definitely get the cheese sauce powder since it was the best thing she had ever made from any bin anywhere. I am a sucker for un-requested testimonials.
All the baking looks grand and
Happy Baking GMA's
I'd recommend a grilled cheese with something made with the tequila-
The King Arthur Flour site has lots of recipes that use their cheese powder. This one is for Savory Cheese Bread. It calls for cheese powder and shredded cheese. Never have used the powder (except the kind you put on popcorn and I've wondered if you could use it in bread) I just tossed in a couple of handfuls of shredded sharp cheddar and some chopped, drained jalapeno.
Be careful with that fancy French/Mexican fusion cooking!

recipes at KAF. Now I don't have to guess how much cheese powder and water to add to the 1:2;3 SD recipe. I do think i will bake it in a clay pot over a wood fire in the back yard though - just to see if Lucy can set it on fire without tequila :-)
