I had fun doing a few experiments with YW. I converted it to a flour-based starter that makes delicios bread. It is labelled "Grape" but even 2years later it can be identified by it's subtle,fruity scent. I used fresh-picked concord grapes from my daughter's yard.
When you converted YW to a flour based starter, do you feed it with flour or grapes or both? Wondering how you are able to retain the taste of grapes if you're feeding it with flour only and without adding more YW?
I dabbled for a short time in YW and when I was done, I just used the "fruit water" added to flour as a basis for a starter. I fed it like any other flour-based starter (flour and water). When it developed (rather quickly, of course),it had a very pleasant fruity aroma which has persisted a few years so far-smells like yeasty wine after a feeding. I believe it must be whatever lactos and yeasts came together were particulary fragrant and in a good balance. The starter also seemed to stabilize very fast for a young starter. The bread it makes does not retain any "sweet" characteristics or scent but is quite delicious.
So it started out as grapes and water>developed into a nice starter for a few loaves of bread>converted to flour starter and continues on.
Just bought some unsulphured dried organic apricots (they are delicious)
Feeding my sourdough now for tomorrow's bake. Going to get my fruit yeast water started in the next day or two for next week's bake (need to read up more about it first - next stop your link).
goji berry bush in my garden. I got berries all right but thorns too and the things are spreading using deep roots. Thorny and strong enough to poke through the soles of my shoes into my feet. So burn or trash any trimmings right away, they don't compost well. I can't kill the bushes fast enough now. If you keep a bush, pot that pest and don't let it into your garden beds!
I looked at them in a garden catalog and they didn't mention THOSE attributes! Thanks for the headup. My garden is as thornless as I can make it. The exception is the gooseberry bush my husband has now moved to 3 houses over the years. They make delicious pretty red jam! (purple variety that look like red grapes when ripe).

This is a great start. RonRay has wonderful posts about it and a great blog. There might also be something in the handbook(top toolbar).
Basically, it just demonstrates how ubiquitous yeast is in our environment. Everywhere! And it is so useful!

Better start it before I eat them all up. If the taste of the fruit is anything to go by it'll make delicious bread.

Thank god Mini I don't have a goji berry bush...just dried ones from Chinese herbalist. They're very good for the eyes.
