10 Quart Mixer? Kitchen Aid smoking...

Hello fellow bakers,

So last month I bought a new Robot Coupe r2n, that I absolutely LOVE,it is the best food processor I have ever used, its big and expensive but I am confident I could hand it down to my grand kids in 30 years, lol...

So Anyway just having spent almost $1500 on a food processor of course my Kitchen aid {second one in 4 years} would burn down, the cord got hot, tripped the kitchen breaker and flips the breaker every time I try to turn it on, so I think its safe to imagine she has done her last batch of bread dough.  Instead of spending $450 on another ka I am contemplating getting a larger mixer, space is not an issue, and to be honest I need a larger mixer.  The stress I put the ka's through is not what they are made for, running at least an hour and a half a day for 3 years I am happy they lasted as long as they did, Ever Since thanksgiving it has been smelling funny when it runs, we had 38 people to feed and it had a workout, that is for sure

I spoke with KA and they said the issue is the duty cycle, not giving the machine time to rest every 10 or so minutes really cuts their life down, she said an option would be to have multiple mixers, which even if I went with the less expensive ka's I would be around $700..

I looked into the 10qt commercial type mixers and I can get into one of them for around $550 http://www.generalfoodservice.com/store.php?productID=1 I spoke with a gentleman who uses that same mixer in his restaurant, its 2 years old and works great, I also spoke with a women who runs a cupcake shop who has 2 of that exact model and uses them daily with no issues...

I was also thinking about a used Hobart but, they are larger, more expensive, and used...

Does anyone know anything about that General mixer, there are others all similar, Presto, Berkel, Uniworld, Eurodib, Thunder Bird, Omcan, and about 5 others...  I spoke with a rep from general and of course they said it was a good machine and they don't have any issues with them in the commercial atmosphere they were intended for some home use should be a cake walk {forgive the pun}...

I seen the globe and I have a globe meat slicer that I bought used and has been great for the 8 years I have owned it.  But that mixer is $910 shipped {new on ebay} which still $360 more than the General 10qt,, It also weighs 100lbs less, has 1/2 the hp, holds 2 qt less, and the digital control kind of scares me for longevity, I like the idea of if the switch on the general breaks I can get another one on amazon, or throw a light switch in there...  The globe is more compact, but not by much.  Only 2" shorter and 8"s wider {a lot of that is the handle}...  I will be keeping it on the counter so the weight is not a huge issue...

Now ion the other hand, if the globe is a proven product that a lot of bread makers are using that will go a long way with me...

OK, so I figured I would post an update, we bought the General gem110, 10 qt.  It came well packaged, it is about 25" tall, and weighs about 165lbs, which shouldn't be an issue because we don't intend on taking it off the counter often, it easliy slides around to clean under and behind it.  The finish is different, it has a purpleish metal flake on the top and a gloss metallic silver on the lower.

I brought it home and set it up, and of course threw a 7 cup mix in the bowl, it did it with ease, made about 4 lbs of dough and was plenty of room and power to do more...  The motor never changed sounds, I am not sure about the specifics on my dough for hydration, 7 cups of flower and about 2 1/4 cups of water {2 tbl spns of conditioner, 4tsp of salt, and yeast, and 2 tsp of sugar, with a splash of olive oil}...  

I also made a whipped peanut butter cake that was obviously no work at all for the mixer. I have so far done about 15 batches of dough so far and it seems to perform perfectly, I am wondering why I ever bought a kitchen aid at all...
