Bagels
Something about bagels that make a Yooper (this is now an official Webster dictionary word) winter......I mean Spring.....
tolerable. 10 inches of snow on April 5th is a cruel joke, but I've decided to make lemonade out of lemons. Bagels, a hot toddy and a good book in front of the fire. Ok, more than tolerable.
This is a photo from last year but the recipe is the same. Very easy if anyone wants it, let me know!

if you get my drift. Just clear it off with your yooper scoop and then pank it down.
The bagels, on the other hand, look spectacular.

Hey Paul, you must live in the Yoop to understand this. Great joke.....if you get my drift, lol. Thanks for the compliment on the bagels. There are no good bagels anywhere to be found around here, so I make my own. Just like I do pretty much everything else too. Today I'm experimenting with rye bread, a recipe from Peter Reinhart and not having much luck. Will have to see how it turns out after it comes out of the oven. It looks pretty enough, braids and all, but I didn't like the feel, the texture. Something just doesn't seem right. Maybe a trip to Johnson & Wales is needed, lol. Another good day for baking in the U.P!
in da UP at MTU. So, yes, some of the vocabulary and accent still linger, despite sojourns in Alabama, Kansas, and Texas.
Hope the rye bread turns out well. I need to put Reinhart's Deli Rye on my list for the near future; it's a favorite that I haven't had in too long.
