Hello from Gateshead, UK!

Hi all

I've been baking on and off for a few months now but still feel very much like a beginner. I've mainly made basic white loaves and have also had a reasonably successful crack at bagels. I'm keen to explore some new recipes and techniques so I'm sure I'll get a lot of inspiration from this site.

Cheers and happy baking!

Michael

Welcome! I'm the same as you - standard white loaves have been my mainstay, with a few diversions here and there. The bagels sound great. Did you find them easy to make?

Hi Hairybaker!

The bagels were surprisingly easy to make - the dough is slightly heavier than the standard white dough recipe I've been following (I've mainly been using the river cottage bread handbook) so it just needs a firmer hand when kneading. The best part is when you have to poach the bagels prior to baking. I was inspired to make them after a trip to a kosher bakery in Golders Green; previously I'd only had the rather dry shop bought ones - haven't bought any since! I'd definitely recommend giving them a go; just did a quick google and found the actual recipe I use:

Let me know how you get on.

Cheers
