Hello from Canada's East Coast
Hello All,
I've been baking bread for quite some time and getting rather serious about it lately. This looks like a nice place to hang out, share stuff, and get help/advice when needed. Looking forward to getting to know you guys!
I'm in the same neck of the woods. Just started baking bread before Christmas and have been having great luck so far. Wondering how interesting things will get as the heat and humidity of summer pick up!
If you haven't already, check out Speerville Mills - Atlantic Canada grown and milled flours. Great fresh product, organic available. Great alternative to Robin Hood and both Sobey's and Superstore are carrying them here.
Thanks for the warm welcome mini_maggie. I'm hoping the heat and humidity aren't too awful this summer. I'll certainly be doing most of my baking early in the mornings while it's still fairly cool out.
I have checked out Speerville and have bought some of their flours. I also contacted them about forming a buying group so I can order directly from them and not just have to rely on what the grocery stores choose to bring in. You can save a few dollars doing that and can also get it delivered to your door, but I think the minimum order is $600, so I'm going to have to talk to some friends and family about ordering with me because I'm not quite to that volume yet <haha>!
If we're close enough, I would definitely be interested in going in on that, as small bags from the grocery store is definitely pricey. I'm not exactly doing volume either, just daily bread for two. We swore we wouldn't eat more bread than we used to, but we're both starting to show signs of fresh bread syndrome, so I have to keep production under control!
I'm in NS - between Truro and New Glasgow. If you're close enough I'd also be interested in ordering stuff together from Speerville.
Just outside Bridgewater - we go to Halifax fairly often to visit family. If you ever head in to the city we could maybe work it for me to pick up from you there. If you're trying to get an order together and that's an option for you, when the time comes reply to this message here and I'll get an email notification, then we could get in touch to work out details.
Happy Baking :)
We do head to the city from time to time so we could probably work something out. I'll see if there's any interest around here for folks to order some stuff and if there is I'll send you the product list and prices.
Thanks!
Welcome aboard. Look forward to reading about your baking adventures.
Ian
