Busted Spring Form
My beloved spring form pan suddenly wont close...it seems the clasp is busted, or at least, something is wrong.
It was working fine the other day!
Any idea on how to fix this?

but most of the time it has to do with the clasp being pushed to the pan, pull the clasp forward out away from the pan where it is anchored and try again.
Let me try to get a picture....
The clasp will flip back to where it SHOULD "lock"...but then it WON'T lock...it just slides back to its resting position....
Clasp is most likely bent, which is making it too slack. Happens as they age. Take a pliers and see if you can bend it so it tightens. I'm not there to see it so I can't say how to do it... maybe play around. You'll see what I'm talking about after a bit.
Basically.. the curve of the clasp (looks like an "S" from profile, starts to bend more drastically. Make it LESS like an "S" (flatter) and it should fix.
I tried to "ease" back the clasp that was clearly misshappen...first with pliers...then with a hammer...
...and I hammered that clasp right OFF the pan.
Sigh.
Thanks for the help though! Next time...I'm letting someone more skilled with hardware fix my problems!
I love your determination. How about getting one of those pans with removable bottoms - I already have 2 springforms, but I'm considering them.
Seems these could be better at avoiding leaks.
those posted by sarakaun look like they stack up and clean easier.
I get used spring forms that are nearly new on dollar Thursdays at Goodwill for $1. At that price you can several of them of various sizes.
Happy baking
