Sesame seeds won't stick to bagels

The bagels have been boiled and are ready to bake. Somehow I've got to get the sesame seeds onto them so they'll STAY there after baking. The only success so far has been using a wash of egg+honey+water to glue them on. Any simpler ideas?

thanks much,

throw on the seeds.   Or just plop the hot wet things into a bowl of seeds as they come out of the bath.  They can also stick pretty good to brushed or dipped on milk.  :)

I use a white egg wash (egg white and a bit of water) on the bagels just after the boil. then I dip the bagel into seeds which I've laid out on a piece of wax paper.   works well.

thank you both. tried method 1 yesterday and 2 just now. The first had more of a problem with gumming up wads of seeds after the first few bagels, though. The thin-layer method of number 2 was cleaner, and got just as many to stick.

Happy that this method worked for you.  I love seeds and usually put both poppy seeds and sesame seeds on top of bagels, and sometimes, an even wider mixture of seeds, including anise, etc.    Sometimes I mix them together in advance, and sometimes, when I'm just doing two types of seeds, I separate them into two different piles on the parchment paper and dip the bagels into the seeds, such that one side of the bagel is sesame and the other side poppy, for example.  I like the way that looks.

my husband & i love 'everything' bagels but i also had trouble keeping them on the bagel. we decided to incorporate the seasonings & seeds into the bagel. this turned out great for us.
