Hello from Malaysia!
Hi everyone!
I'm Grace from Malaysia and I'm really happy I found this site! Looking forward to making new friends and hopefully sharing my experiences with everyone too :) Have a great week ahead and happy baking!
Looking forward to hearing about the breads you're baking!
I lived in Malaysia 1976-77 and I still dream about the brilliant food and the fantastic cooking aromas!
There wasn't much 'regular bread' available in Johor, Melaka, KL, Ipoh or Pulau Pinang in those days and there was almost no dairy food (apart from paneer and yogurt and tinned condensed milk) back then. I DID miss Euro-style cheese a bit. (I never got a taste for soy milk, either! Heheheh!) When I REALLY needed to eat Euro food, once a month or so, it meant a trip to Singapore or KL.
However, the fruits, the soups, the curries and chilis, the roti canai (paratha) and the murtabak, and the mee goreng and the fabulous sateh...plus all of the Hokkien and Teow Chiu and Quang Zhou (etc) food, and so much fabulous Indian food [they even had 3-4 authentic ARABIAN restaurants in KL] MORE than made up for it!
Malaysia was always a gourmet's paradise. I imagine it's even better, now. Tell us, please, how you got into baking bread.
Thank you,
