Wonderful Tortillas
I was reading some older post last night about supper time (I know, bad thing to do when you're hungry!!) and came across Gothicgirls recipe for tortillas. I never made them before and decided to try them. I don't keep lard in the kitchen (yet) so I made them with some shortening instead. They turned out great! So tender and light compared to the store bought stuff. I do have to practice either better rolling techniques or learn to do them by hand. They weren't perfect looking but tasted so go with a little left over stake (sliced real thin) with a dab of mayo and mustard. Another wonderful recipe to keep in the rotation for things to make!
Big thanks to Gothicgirl for posting the recipe!
Aloha,

I learned to make them a long time ago and I still love to make them. I make corn tortillas too.
Looks good! Can't wait to try them out! How do you make them with Corn? Just use cornmeal instead of AP flour? Just wondering.
Thanks again!
In my area, I can buy a corn meal called Masa Harina or Maseca and it is a very finely ground meal made just for tortillas or even tamales (yum) and you mix it with water ...2 cups of finely ground cornmeal, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 1/4 cup of water. Mix and roll into about 16 little balls, size and number depends on the size you want to make ..
Here is a good link for making them
