Italian Bread

This is just the basic Italian recipe from the main page of this site but its turned out so pretty I wanted to show it to people who would appreciate it :)

I had to add a extra flour to the recipe to get it to a workable consistancy both times i made this but it turned out with nice big air pockets inside throughout the loaf. I let it rise longer too, not following the recipe to a T because I think I've begun to start to see what the dough is supposed to look and feel like.

...Very clean, even colors.
It is light on the bottom, makes me wonder...Do you use a stone?

Thanks guys! Good eye wisecarver! It is light on the bottom. No I don't have a stone. I'm not at home right now and I didn't want to spend money on something I would have a hard time getting back to Canada. :) But maybe in April I'll get one when we're finished in Barbados.

The loaf tastes really good, I think the preferment really does something for it. The first time I made it, I split it up into a few batches because its only me and my future hubs and the second loaf and third loaf had each grown in flavour a LOT. I'm really starting to see the work time does.

Now, all I need is a cup of coffee, butter and a slice. Thanks for sharing. Beautiful!
