Pics from last weekend
Having plunged into the digital camera pool, here are some photographs from last weekend's baking.
First up, some dried cherry scones that I made for Saturday morning breakfast: [1]. This recipe is from Clayton's New Complete Book of Breads and is titled Mrs. McNab's Scones. I had some dried cherries on hand, so chopped up a handful and stirred them into the dough. Yum!
Second, I made some honey whole wheat bread for this week's sandwiches: [2]. After cooling, the tops look rather rumpled (the one on the right wasn't well-formed to begin with) but the flavor is just fine.
Since my wife was running short on time in the afternoon, I wound up baking a fresh apple cake to help her. I didn't think to get a picture, not that it was very photogenic to begin with. It is a very moist, heavy cake, which isn't all that surprising when you realize that there are 4 cups of chopped apples and only 2 cups of flour in it. It also has 2 teaspoons of cinnamon for even more flavor. Topping it with a warm nutmeg sauce guaranteed that it wouldn't survive long.
