Electrolux Verona/Magic Mix mixer

Has anyone used this mixer in Australia?  I am investigating the voltage, 50Hz 230V made for the European market and would like to know whether I can use this electrical output in Australia with a transformer or is it more complicated than that?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Mixer power

Hi I am hoping that someone can tell me if a KA classic with 250 watts power would be powerful enough for my needs. I am looking to use it for making one to two loaves of bread at a time. I found a used one that is selling at a good price but I know that if it doesn't have enough power to do what I need it for, then even if it is free, it's not worth aquiring. Thanks

Need new stove

I'm a new comer. I'm a 72 year old male and love to cook. And love to bake!

I'm looking to buy a new stove and am looking at GE 30" free standing Gas range model # JGB600DETWW 5 burner stove $1066.00 out the door.

My problem is everywhere I go online there are such horrendous reviews of so many ranges.

The above range has one oven and I'm really envious of the dual oven models but the most I can afford is 1500.00 and would like a five year warrantee as well.

I presently have a four burner Magic Chef and it was a total mistake. It was an absolutely beautiful thing in the show room. A chrome top, self cleaning oven and because we owned a Magic Chef that lasted over twenty years, I bought it. Hmmf. What a disappointment it was, within a year the auto lite burner feature was kaput. Three years and the Chrome top was rusted out.

I had bought a five year warranty and they replaced the top and moved the controls for the auto lite feature to the bottom of the reange (they still work). Then I made a grievous error, I used the self cleaning oven feature! It burned holes in the bottom of the oven. One time and the darned thing burnt several holes in the floor of the oven.

And within three years the new top rusted out as well. Now, insult to injury, the back left burner has a hole around it and gas escapes inside and ignites, so it's unsafe to use. So I now have a three burner stove and the oven has gone out completely! A complete piece of junk!

So I need advice on what to buy. The men in my family do not get past 82 and I'd like this to be my last purchase. So any help and or recommendations will be appreciated.

Kitchenaid dough hook problem

I have had a KitchenAid Artesian mixer for about 6 years.  I have used the dough hook with no problem until the past several months.  I am following the white bread recipe that came with the mixer, and once I switch to the dough hook (I'm on speed 2), it all falls apart.  The dough will form into a ball, cleaning the sides of the bowl, for about 10 seconds.  Then it just falls apart into a sticky mess.  I add a bit of flour and it starts to clean up, then falls apart again.  Today, I pulled it out of the bowl and kneaded it by hand until it was smooth and elastic and not sticky.  Just to see what would happen, I put it back in the bowl with the dough hook, and within a few seconds, it was a sticky mess again.

I can tell that my motor is struggling with the dough. I can hear it bog down, then pick back up.  The next speed, however, seems too fast.

Has anyone had this issue before?  Anything else I can try?

Thanks!

Alison

Running new bread machine empty before using to make bread?

Hello,

I have just purchased a West Bend High-Rise Horizontal breadmaker through Amazon.  I bought it because of the many good reviews.  A few of the reviews said that one should run the breadmaker through a whole cycle while the pan is empty, prior to baking any bread!  Has anyone heard of this practice?  It is not mentioned in the manual.

Thank you!

Where to buy Bosch Universal online

I live in Australia & we do not have Bosch Universal Plus available.
I can't buy from US as we have different voltage. I need to find a European online retailer who will ship to Australia & I've been searching for a while. Does anyone know where I can get one?

PID temperature controller, works!

Hello,

Thought I'd post this in case anyone else is interested.   I got this handy-dandy "PID" controller, it adjusts electrical output to a target heating (or cooling) device based on realtime feedback from a temperature probe.   It took me a day to figure it out and get it set correctly, but it is now calibrated for the heating device I am using.   For me, the controller only takes a few minutes to go from a room temp to the set-temp, and is accurate to appx +/- 0.5 degrees of the target temp.  Most of the time it is spot-on.   It has a nice feature of defining schedules in advance with 6 steps max.   For example, if you want something to be held at 50C for 2 hours, then at 60C for 2 hours, you can pre-program it and walk away.  Each step has a max of 9999 minutes.   It has many ways to configure it, you can either set the P. I. D. values directly, or use a "Auto-Tune" feature (automatic calibration).   Ultimately, I had to lower the max electrical output by 80% to my heater, effectively turning my 1000-watt burner into a 200-watt burner, then used the auto-tune, and it calibrated itself perfectly.

The controller was inexpensive, less than $200 USD.   My heater is a cheap $15 single-coil burner from the local drugstore.

Here it is, holding a mash steady at 60C.   (60.2C at the time I took the photo).   The tip of the probe is metal (stainless steel I think..) and is submerged entirely in the mash.

Zojirushi bread machine rising problem

We purchased a Zojirushi bread maker a couple of months ago and returned it because we could not solve a problem of uneven rising.  The loaves always came out much higher (looking like a ski hill) on the connection end of the heating element.  We tried everything we copuld think of including changing ingredients, changing amount of ingredients, how we placed the ingredients in the appliance, and water temperature all to no avail.  I could not find anyone having a similare problem, so gave up.  I can only conclude we had a dewfective unit or other people living with the appearance issue.  I would appeciate comments.

scale - converting to grams?

Does anyone know how to get the Weigh Of Life scale to show grams? I don't have the manual and I've scoured the internet for hours without results. Currently it shows ounces, and no amount of button pushing seems to change that.

The scale looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/Weigh-of-Life-3084-00-Scale/dp/B00067IYX2

(mine is an older version with a metal plate instead of glass)

Thanks!

My First Kitchen Aid Artisan Wrecked!

After adding olive oil to the second try-out recipe for my ensaimadas a little too enthousiastic, my already quite developed dough literally launched out of the bowl. That in itself would not have been so bad, because i caught it :-)

My Kitchen Aid however didn't understand what was going on. Without any dough resisting,  suddenly it went into overdrive and... snapped!

I have already browsed around, and it seems my only option is to schlepp it back to the store... I recently bought it, so it should still have a working warranty. I guess that is the good news :-/

Do any of you guys know whether this sort of accident is covered?

Thnx!
