Bosch vs. DLX

Hi, I am looking for some advice, I have read numerous accounts on this website about the Bosch and DLX and I have had a hard time making my decision on which to purchase.  It seems you are either a Bosch Universal Plus lover or a DLX lover.  I really need someone who has owned both at some point and what the pros and cons are (it has to be someone who has owned the current bosch as the old one is slightly different in its design when it comes to cleaning).  I am planning on making bread with this item, as well as cookies and possibly cakes, using freshly ground ww.  I have burnt up my KA twice now and do not really want to pay to have repaired, as it cannot handle the load of ww flour I use in it.  Also, I understand that the old Bosch had all plastic parts/gears and have not been able to find out if the current one is the same.  Pls. e-mail me with your comments at vintoniii@phreego.com .

Hobart HL600 60 quart mixer

hi all... i'm about to purchase a hobart HL600 60 quart mixer for a small pizza/bakery business. the mixer i'm looking at is listed as 200-240/50/60/3/1.  i called the hobart dealer for advice and they told me that this is a dual phase mixer, and it can be used on either single or three phase power with just some simple re-wiring.  i want to make sure this is possible (the guy that told me has not seen the mixer).  he just said based on the numbers i gave him it "sounds like i could use it anywhere".  can anyone assure me that a 200-240V will work in any area of town?  i'm in the USA.  i thought everything was 120v here, but maybe not?  the spec sheet from the hobart website lists the mixer as  200-240/50/60/3/1.  i just want to be sure that i am able to use the mixer at any location.  currently it's being used at a school and i think it is wired for three phase power.   can anyone verify that this is, in fact, dual phase and that i can use it on single or 3 phase power?  i just want to be sure before i spend the money, and i've had a hard time finding helpful info on the internet searches.  thanks for any help you can provide!  any and all insights welcome!

Mixers (Horizontal, Spiral & Planetary)

Hello TFL. I would like to know more on the three (3) types of mixers as follows:

- Horizontal

- Spiral

- Planetary

Aside from mixing dough, what are its specific functions that set them apart from one another?

Thanks.

KitchenAid/Hobart stand mixer

KitchenAid Model K5-A

So I've been haunting this site for a while now basically just trying to get the guts up to actually get some baking done. I don't do well with failure(My pretzels were good but ugly!). I've been living overseas for a while and when I got back I realized that I have a stand mixer that's been sitting in my long-term storage for about 7 years. I was going to just take it to the local swap meet to get rid of it when I decided to do some research on what it was that I actually had. It looks like it's worth keeping! At least that's what I've gleaned from the other posts I've read. When it was first given to me by my MIL I thought it was a waste since it didn't come with anything. I never really knew where to start looking things up for mixers that were so old. Now that I know what to look for I'm still stumped! I know what it is, the motor runs when I turn it on, I know how to search, but really, it's kinda hard to find the accessories. Or is it? Whenever I type in the model number it comes up with modern KA accessories. Are these even going to fit? I don't want to get my hopes up and order this stuff just to get it here and find out that it doesn't work like it should. I've never had a stand mixer so I wouldn't even know how the things are supposed to fit. OK, I feel like I'm starting to whine now. Time to stop. I would really appreciate any help y'all could give me.  Thanks!

Diana

Hobart c100 Owners Question

Hello all. I have a Hobart c100 and am trying know more about it. First, some background. I bought it from ebay two years ago. It was in a bit rough shape, but came with the latest service records where it was disassembled and regreased. Since it was already repainted in a two-tone color, I completed stripped it down to metal, cleaned, and repainted it. I also replaced the original plug...wow I can't believe they made it with that originally.

Here it is:

I am trying to correctly age this mixer. The best guess I have is 1960's due to the rounded feet. It didn't come with a serial number :( so that's tough, but I did get an extremely good deal and it came with a splash guard, bowl, and authentic c100 dough hook.

Also, I am concerned with some movement when mixing, I think it may be from some looseness with the dough arm connecting to the drive, creating an unbalanced situation, but not sure.

Hoping other c100 owners can help with these questions, and maybe I can be helpful, too, with other questions about the mixer.

Thanks for taking a look!

Kitchenaid K5-A Dough Hook Question

I recently was given a Kitchenaid K5-A Mixer. It came with a beater and whisk, but no dough hook. I did a little research and found that the K5ADH should be the right one for my mixer. I recieved it today and put it on the machine. Unlike the whisk and beater, the bottom of the hook does not touch the bottom of the bowl. I'm actually able to fit my finger between the two. Is that normal for this part or did I maybe get the wrong one? the Kitchenaid website was petty worthless when I looked there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
