New baker from the Smokeys
Just began my trek into baking. Started with "Home Baking: The Artful Mix of Flour and Traditions from Around the World" by Jeffrey Alford and Naomi Duguid - started with Puglese and never looked back. It wasn't the best bread (it was my first attempt) but it was edible! Am still working on getting those nice air pockets in the crumb. Just got married and used ALL of my gift certificates on a mixer :) - still knead by hand.
Also just moved to Western NC and love it here, though the closest artisan bread is in Asheville and not close by. Asheville does have a good bread scene starting up.
I will need all the help I can get so I will continue to read....
