Artisan Baking in the Lake District - England

September 18, 2006 - 11:05am -- artisanfood

We run an on-line artisan food magazine in the Lake District in England. There are a number of Artisan bakers located in this area. We have an organic stoneground mill, that supplies a lot of the flour, they source their wheat from the UK as well. One bakery is called The Village Bakery, the founder Andrew Whitley has just written a book on the the UK Bread industry and artisan baking, it is a superb book you can see the review of by clicking on the link here [1]. One particular bread that is very good, a rye bread made from Sourdough smuggled out of Russia [2], is one of my favourites. Another artisan baker who does more french style bread is Aiden Monks, he runs Pain De Paris [3] in a place called Staveley. Our Italian influenced bread is provided by Simon from the Staff of life in Kendal. If you want to know more, just follow the links. - Martin (Regarding the image, you will have to guess what it is!)
