KitchenAid accessory

In today's Seattle Times Sunday Magazine there is a big advertisement for City Kitchens and one item caught my eye, or rather several items. Beater blades for KitchenAid and other stand mixers which continuously scrape the sides of the bowl. "Virtually eliminates hand scraping and batter build-up on the blade". Sounds as though it would make a nice gift for anyone with a stand mixer, A.

Is this made by KitchenAid, or made by someone else to work with the KitchenAid?
Thanks,
Marni

Marni, it doesn't exactly say so but the codes they give are: KA-TH (Fits all KA tilt head models). KA-SL (Fits KA 5Qt lift models. KA-6L-5P (Fits KA 6 Qt and 5Qt Plus models. CDV-7 (Fits 7Qt. Cuisinart, Delonghi and Viking models. It says they replace the paddle and the "wing system" design acts like a wiper blade. I'll give the store a call and see what I can find out. They are all on sale but not cheap. Has anyone else seen or used one? A.

I have one - I'm a total pushover for gadgets. Mixing times are much shorter & there is none of that annoying scraping the butter off the sides of the bowl 3 times before it begins to cream. However the entire blade is made from kind of plastic, not metal, so I don't know how durable it is going to be.

Hi Marni and Patsy, I called City Kitchens and spoke to a nice young (aren't they all young?) man who told me they are made by New Metro Designs, or at least that is where they get them. He said that when the company approached KitchenAid they weren't interested, probably because it would be admitting that there was a problem with their design. He also asked me to let you know that they ship and their phone # is 800-683-6950, and you can also reach them at CITYKITCHENSSEATTLE.COM - I'm not sure about all caps. but that's how it is written in their ad. Lots of neat stuff - good thing it isn't easy for me to get there! A.

Dougal, where are you from that you still see Kenwood mixers? I have a 35 year old one that works really well, but I need a new wisk, and would love one of these scrapers, but I have no idea how to contact them. I am in Canada.

Thank you so much for that information.  We have relatives near Donald's location, and I will surely visit his repair shop the next time we are down there.  I don't use the whisk nearly as often as I used to  (kids are 31-35 yrs old and don't need cookies and cakes any more), and my dough hook and K-beater are still in great shape.

Too bad they think their machines are obsolete, since mine is just fine and works better than DIL's and daughter's new Kitchen Aids.
